Complacent

Complacency is like spending hours on your phone when there is a posinous snake sitting beside you. When you neglect your walk with God, you ignore the dangers and temptations around you. As a Christian, there are two main areas where complancey can come in if we let it. The first area is the time you spend with God. “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”-Psalm 119:105 God’s Word is our light. When we read the scriptures, it can help us throughout our day. If you go on the path without the light you will fall and this an example of complancey. Often life gets really busy, but if you take a few seconds or mintues out of your day to spend with God, it can only help and make your day better.” I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit. Already you are clean because of the word that I have spoken to you. Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing”. John 15:1-5 Bearing fruit is important. The fruit that you bear allows people to see Christ reflected in your life. It can be hard to bear fruit if we are not spending time with God. It is often easier to hit the “continue watching” button on Netflix or the “are you still watching” button on Youtube. In the long run though it is more rewarding to spend time with God, because you can see the fruit and apart from God you can do NOTHING. It is very easy to get complacent when it comes to spending time with God, but it is so dangerous because you may be satisfied for a moment, but that moment will not last forever. When the trial comes into your life, are you spending time with Him so you will be ready? Church is the second area and it also is very difficult to get out of once complancey sets in. Christians do not have to go to church. It is not a requirement in the Bible and it is also not a check off the box either. Church helps with your relationship with God. You should desire to know God more and want to know other believers who God has placed in your life for the season that you are in. Church is a gathering of a community that can help you in the bad times and good times. “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age“. Matthew 28:19-20 Church is where disciple-making begins and is kind of like the training ground for discipleship. Children’s church is a great example of discipleship at church. Let’s be truly honest, you cannot make disciples by going to church on Sunday and Wednesday. it takes spending time with God and fellowshiping with other believers. Church is NOT a building. It’s your community showing the love of Christ and growing closer to God. For we are God’s fellow workers. You are God’s field, God’s building. 1 Corinthans 3:9 You and your church famliy are the church.

Church gives us opportunities for outreach and missions which allow believers to be the love and light of Christ in your community. Once you miss one Sunday, it could turn into months. It is easy to get in the habit of not going. It becomes easier to stay at home. This is complacency. One can easily convince themselves they are fine and don’t need the the church. We need time with Jesus and other believers. Christian, it’s like losing oxygen because we need Jesus.

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.Complancey is a hard hole to get out of. It is one of those things that is easier to say than actually do. It is like a battle to the finish line. I know complancey has been a struggle in my life, and it is hard. It takes a lot of prayer, but God is good! If you pray and seek Him, He will guide you! He has a plan and purpose for you…He needs you! 2 Timothy 4:7-8 Finish the race fight the good fight. Choose God daily and find a church home. If you do not have one, or if your one Sunday turned into months, go this week. You will not regret it. If you have been complacent, pray about it. God will help you.
