Psalm 91 Devotional

Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. Psalm 91 1-4 (NIV)

A shelter is a safe place. It is one where you can go in a time of trouble. For example a homeless shelter is a shelter that helps people get their life back on track. As Christians, we can live in the shelter of the Lord, who will give us peace in times of trouble, hope when everything seems hopeless, and joy in the midst of pain, and so much more when we truly have a relationship with Him. Trust is difficult, especially if it is not God’s timing or not in God’s will for you to have what you desire. When the answer is no, in those moments it is hard to trust God. But God is the shelter in place and we can rest in the shadow of the Almighty during these unprecedented times. Even in the midst of trouble we are in God’s hand and we can take comfort that God knows how the story will close. God knows what is best for you, and He wants the best for you even if things are difficult. A fowler’s snare is a net used to trap birds. Sometimes it may feel like we can be trapped in our situaton and circumstance. Job was like that bird trapped in a very hard time, but Job was faithful to God where he was at and knew that God would rescue him. Right now our world is being faced with a deadly pestilence, but through it all God has not changed (Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. Hebrews 13:8) It may not feel like God is doing anything, but He is always working. This is just a season. Today you can take comfort that you rest in God’s hand no matter what comes your way. God is always with you and will never leave or foresake you! https://youtu.be/eiuNq2OWgzg (this devotion was inspired by Keith and Kristyn Getty My Dwelling Place and Psalm 91)
